AGO was not founded but organically evolved to a framework of methods and processes through a series of collaborations and projects. We are a young architecture and design office based in London. Headed by the Finnish architect Taneli Mansikkamäki who also runs a design unit at the Architectural Association together with Max Turnheim (UHO). While the office based research is complimented by work from strategic consultancy to detailed design, the academic research is based on research on the loss of form and function in architecture. Questioning how does one manipulate space through producing new partitions? What are the material and thus economical means to achieve these new partitions? Or better: how does one distribute quantitative resources in order to produce a qualitative difference?
Our past commissions range from interiors and bespoke furniture to buildings in private, commercial and public sectors. Recent collaborations are with Turner Prize winning artist Laure Prouvost, RÄTHEL & WOLF, Stella McCartney and Klaus Haapaniemi.
Taneli Mansikkamäki (Helsinki 1981) is a Finnish Architect who graduated from the Architectural Association School of Architecture (AA) in London. He has taught at the AA since 2011 where he is running the Intermediate Unit 12.
Depending on the scale of projects AGO has in the past worked collectively with other architects.
